Camshaft

The camshaft lives in the block and tells the valves when to open, how long to stay open, and how much lift the engine sees. It changes idle, torque, horsepower, and where the engine makes power.

Valve springs

When a cam has more lift or RPM range, the springs must control that extra valve movement. Weak or mismatched springs can cause valve float, lost power, or valvetrain damage, so they are a necessity on most cam swaps.
